This vase is crafted from Jingdezhen's unique kaolin clay. Handcrafted from this clay, the vase boasts a dense structure and a mellow texture. After high-temperature firing, the porcelain emerges with a jade-like quality, being both translucent and radiant, with a soft sheen.

From kneading the clay to throwing the pottery to sharpening the pottery, each step is meticulously handcrafted by experienced craftsmen.

High-temperature firing is a journey of rebirth for the vase. Once the pottery is placed in the kiln, at temperatures of approximately 1300°C, the kaolin clay undergoes a remarkable physical and chemical transformation. Impurities are removed, its molecular structure rearranged, and the porcelain becomes increasingly dense and hard. The high temperature not only imparts the vase's strength but also perfectly integrates the glaze with the porcelain body, creating an ideal backdrop for hand-painted ink and color.

Using a knife as a brush, the artist meticulously carves the outline of the lotus pond onto the vase's surface. The veins of the lotus leaves and the shape of the lotus blossoms gradually become clear under the knife, and the subtle depth of the texture adds a three-dimensional quality to the image. They then used delicate brushes dipped in ink and color to paint upon the engraving. The harmonious balance of light and dark ink, reminiscent of traditional Chinese ink painting, vividly captures the tranquil atmosphere of the moonlit lotus pond.

The subtle blue of the blue-and-white porcelain complements the richness and lightness of the ink.

The History of Jingdezhen Ceramics

Located in China's Jiangxi Province, Jingdezhen boasts a history of porcelain making that spans over 1,700 years.

Jingdezhen's porcelain journey began during the Han Dynasty (202 BC - 220 AD), when locals began crafting simple pottery. Over time, by the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907 AD), Jingdezhen had become renowned for producing high-quality celadon (blue-colored porcelain) and white porcelain. These porcelains, famous for their delicate texture and smooth glaze, began to be traded throughout China.

Basic Ceramic Production Process

1. Select and prepare the ceramic raw materials.

2. Form the body.

3. Allow to air dry.

4. Glaze to impart color and luster to the ceramic.

5. Firing at high temperatures. This is the transformation from clay to ceramic.

6. Apply decorations such as painting and carving, and polish to enhance the texture.
